Dummy Rounds: Special Interest Gun Lies

A minor gun rights group has sent out flyers contending a state senator “voted to kill pro-gun legislation.”  It’s the political season and the lies are like flies on a dung heap.  In this case, the lies and the dung heap belong to the same people.

A group called “Palmetto Gun Rights” has mailed flyers contending that State Senator Katrina Shealy “broke her promise and voted to kill pro-gun Constitutional Carry legislation this year.”  The legislation to which the PGR refers is House bill H 3025

First, Constitutional Carry; “By definition, it means carrying a concealed handgun without a concealed carry permit.”  That quote comes from the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR), a sister to the PGR.  The significance is that H.3025 is not a constitutional carry bill, it’s a reciprocity carry bill.  That is, it was intended …

TO AMEND SECTION 23-31-215, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE ISSUANCE OF CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITS, SO AS TO REVISE THE CONDITIONS THAT ALLOW A HOLDER OF AN OUT-OF-STATE CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT TO CARRY A WEAPON IN THIS STATE. [H.3025]

The purpose of the bill was to allow citizens of Georgia to carry in South Carolina and vice versa.  As Senator Shealy explained

It was not a bill that was ever intended to be constitutional carry and S105 which I co-sponsor is a true Constitutional Carry Bill.

Indeed, S.105 is “TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, TO ENACT THE “SOUTH CAROLINA CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY ACT OF 2015

Before H.3025 reached the Senate sub-committee, it had been amended four times and was full of loopholes and errors.  Even one of the bill’s sponsors, Rep. Bill Hixon no longer supported the bill.

A representative of the NRA took no stance on the bill.  No stance.  That means he did not favor or oppose it, but, most importantly for this discussion, the NRA did not favor the H. 3025.

Interestingly enough, at the sub-committee hearing, there was NO ONE PRESENT WHO SUPPORTED THE BILL.

None of it’s sponsors supported it before the Senate sub-committee.

No one from Palmetto Gun Rights was there.

No one from the National Association for Gun Rights was there.

PGR’s and NAGR’s  preferred candidate PATRICIA WHEAT DID NOT SUPPORT THE BILL before the Senate sub-committee.

The PGR flyer screams that Sen. Shealy is an “‘F’ RATED CANDIDATE” by the NAGR while conveniently failing to note that she has a A+ rating (the highest) from the NRA and that she is its endorsed candidate in this race.

toy_gunsThe PGR, NAGR, Campaign for Liberty, Palmetto Liberty PAC and other fringe groups and candidates are trying to weaken our legislative representation so they can control their candidate (Patricia Wheat).  They fear sunlight and take Lexington County voters as fools who will believe any inflammatory rhetoric.  They are charlatans and scam artists.

Lake and Main looked into these allegations because they smelled like the dung heap they are and discovered the facts. Research and read for yourself.  Don’t vote for or against anyone because of something you got in the mail or heard on the radio.  If you’re reading this, you have the internet at your disposal.  Check things out.  Click on the links in this article.  Decide for yourself and …VOTE!

  1. My husband is a NRA life member. He receives newsletters from the NRA. Katrina Shealy may have once been designated with an A+ rating but she no longer has an A+ rating as of the lastest newsletter.

  2. I need to correct a comment I posted yesterday (June 11, 2016). I incorrectly stated that Katrina Shealy no longer had an A+ rating from the NRA. She may have had that designation in the past but no longer holds that rating. I was wrong in my assertion. Katrina Shealy does indeed have an A+ rating with the NRA-PVF. I am sorry for creating any ensuing confusion. As for the other gun groups I do not have enough information but I will put credence into what Mr. Speight has stated.
