Lex Clerk of Court Demeans Office in Facebook Rant

Lexington County Clerk of Court Beth Carrigg posted a bizarre, profane rant on Facebook on Wednesday in which she apears to be callng out personal or political detractors.  The redacted text appears below and an unredacted screenshot of the post can be seen here.

Carrigg is not running for re-election, but until her successor is sworn in, she holds an elective office and is a public servant. In that position she represents Lexington County and county citizens making her sophomoric screed, whatever the reason, unacceptable.  Embarrassing herself in public is bad enough, but this demeans the office of Clerk of Court and projects onto the county and its population. Over the last few years, voters have begun to purge the county of  government and representative bad actors.  We neither need or want not should we accept shameful behavior by those we have elected.

Because Ms. Carrigg is an elected county official, it is the responsibility of the Governor to exact disciplinary actions.  Governor Haley has been notified of this instance and Lexington County Citizens and voters should hope she will take the appropriate action.

So…. It’s been an interesting few years and I know that I am not invincible and far from perfect, but I am honest to a fault! I also know that when I signed up to be a public servant, I signed away all of my rights as a private citizen and I am painfully aware that people can say anything they want about me whether it’s true or not; hell they can just make **** up and I am supposed to take it and smile! Well… I’ve never been very good at that particular part of this game! See, I hate a thief and a liar! I despise weakness and excuses! So I just want to be very clear about the rules of engagement when you come for me or mine! When you wake up and eat your little bowl of wheaties (remember what they did for Bruce Jenner) and you look down to see that those raisins between your legs or on your chest are now the size of grapefruits and you are feeling particularly froggy, you better make damn sure your arsenal has more in it than **** & vinegar and some game pieces! Because my arsenal is a stock pile of 1.God and 2.The Truth (which is an absolute defense!) Couple that with the fact that I am unafraid and unapologetic and I am ready for war…. Not a chess game! So I just want to be clear and on the record….. When you come at me, your first strike better be a ****ing death blow, because if I ever get up…… YOU WONT!!
Happy Hump Day peeps.. Smooches to ya!

  1. The profane words were not intact at all. She is a firecracker and doesn’t take lightly to crap slung. I admire her and her stance to things/people she believes in.

    1. The profane words were redacted in the post. The screenshot shows Ms. Carrigg’s words as she wrote them. I chose not to use such language, even as a quote.

It is not her passion that I find problematic, but that, as a public servant, she expressed that passion in a tone and with language that is unprofessional and unbecoming her office.

  2. Her post was EXACTLY as you see it . . . no redacted words at all. She is a firecracker and takes a strong stance with things/people she believes it. I admire her and her unwillingness to stand quietly when crap is slung. You should be very appreciative to have her in your corner!

  3. It is her right to speak her mind Beth is and always have been a class act and your right she is an elected official but her rant was on her personal Facebook account I have no problem with her rant and if you do I suggeste you unfreind her then you would not be offended

    1. Of course she has the right to speak her mind. I don’t denounce that, but her post was PUBLIC and NIT limited to her friends. Language and tone as she used is not acceptable by a public official in a public forum in not acceptable.

  4. Grow up people! Just because a person is an elected official does not suspend their right to the US Constitution FREE SPEECH clause! You may not agree with what she posted on her PERSONAL, NON POLITICAL AFFILIATION Facebook page. But, You have ZERO right to try and punish her just because she holds a political office. Otherwise, the Governor should be removed for using our tax dollars to take a FAMILY vacation to India under the GUISE of a few measly hours total spent doing political trade negotiations. Pretty sure all the family she took to India are not government employees entitled to be paid for by SC tax dollars, correct? But, since it ticked you off by what she said on her PERSONAL PAGE, she obviously said something right! Just saying….

    1. Thank you for your comment.
The problem with Ms. Carrigg’s post is the vulgar nature of it PUBLICLY posted. She could have restricted her post to her Facebook friends or chose not to use profane language. But, given that she used the language she did to vent some personal rage is unbecoming a public servant and demeaning to her office. In no way would I deny ANYone’s right to free speech, but office holders have responsibilities that require at least a modicum of civility.

As for Haley’s trip to India, only her husband accompanied her and he paid his own way. See the following, 3rd fom last paragraph:
