(WLTX) – Lexington deputies and West Columbia police need your help after two men were robbed and shot.
“It’s a very dangerous situation that we have people using guns and robbing people,” said Sgt. Robby Lint with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Lint is always on the hunt for bad guys, but his most recent case could involve an entire community.
“Typically these are Hispanic males that are being targeted,” he said.
On Sunday, authorities say two or more people went into a trailer park off Dubbs Avenue, where many residents are Hispanic. The crooks found two victims and robbed them at gunpoint.
“We responded to the scene and found two individuals shot, two Hispanic males, shot at that time,” Lint said.
Lint, who’s on the case, contacted West Columbia Police, who had responded to similar incidents between February and March.
He says many crimes go unreported in the Hispanic community because the victims believe they could be punished.
“They could have many reasons one could be because they may not be here legally and because of that, that tends to have them shy away from police,” Lint said. “Our standpoint is that you’re still a victim.”
Investigators believe more victims could be out there and any leads could be the key to an arrest.
“We encourage any other victims out there if they have not reported this incident to us to please come forward and share their information with us. We don’t know what that information may develop. It may develop more leads for us to follow up on so we can identify these individuals and get them off the street,” Lint said.
One is back at home and the other is still in the ICU at the hospital.
