Armed robbers may be targeting Hispanics in Lexington County

(ColaDaily.com) Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating the Sunday night robbery and shooting of two men on Dubbs Avenue near West Columbia.

Deputies said the two victims were robbed and shot in quick succession around 9 p.m. Sunday as they stood outside homes on Dubbs Avenue. Both men were taken to a local hospital. One was treated and released Sunday night, while the other remained hospitalized in stable condition Monday afternoon.

The victims were not able to give deputies detailed descriptions of the shooters or the vehicle used by the shooters to leave the scene.

Sheriff Lewis McCarty said detectives are looking for two men, but have not identified those suspects. McCarty also said investigators have reason to believe the victims were targeted because they are Hispanic.

Detectives are working with West Columbia police officers to determine whether the suspects are the same men who were involved in several other armed robberies of Hispanic men reported in West Columbia over the last two months.

McCarty said deputies are conducting directed patrols on Dubbs Avenue and nearby roads in order to enhance the law enforcement presence in the community.

He asked that anyone with information about Sunday night’s incident or any of the other robberies contact Crimestoppers by calling 1-888-CRIME-SC or clicking here.
