Gamecock’s win brings joy to sick Lexington fan

LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) –The USC women’s basketball win meant so much to fans of this team on Sunday, including one tiny fan whose on a big road of her own. Not one to the Final Four but a road to recovery.

Three year old Catherine Ray Tucker loves the Gamecocks, especially the women’s basketball team.

“I think she also likes the cheering part of it everybody cheers,” Cathy’s mom Sara Tucker said.

For many months now, little Cathy has had many cheerleaders of her own.

A little less then a year ago, her parents Dustin and Sara got the shock of their lives; their daughter has leukemia.

“It was one of those fears you hope never comes true, she was always a healthy child. In a way it’s almost like a death sentence, it’s almost like you’re handed over,” Sara Tucker said.

Little Cathy has been undergoing Chemotherapy treatment for several months.

But her mom says she’s also gotten a pick-me-up from watching the gamecock women’s basketball team.

C Ray as she’s called was at several games, including last weekend’s win over Syracuse. Dawn Staley even made her a ceremonial coach for one game.

Little C Ray has her very own autographed picture signed by all of the players. Some of the women have developed a special bond with C Ray, including Khadijah Sessions who Cathy calls ‘Dee’.

While her cancer is now in remission, her parents say Cathy still faces months of treatment ahead.

But much like the Gamecocks, Cathy and her family also have one goal, to keep fight and going strong.

According to C Ray’s mom she’ll be going through treatment until August of next year.
