Deputies Looking for Couple Who Abandoned Injured Dog

(WLTX) — The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a man and a woman who left an injured dog unattended at a Midlands animal shelter.

It happened Sunday at PETS, Inc. a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue organization. The shelter at 300 Orchard Drive in West Columbia was not open when the dog was dropped off.

Deputies say an employee found an injured pit bull hiding in a dog house and contacted law enforcement. The worker told deputies she took the dog to a veterinarian who said the dog could not recover from its injuries. The dog had to be euthanized.

PETS, Inc. sent us photos of the dog, one deemed too graphic to be shown.

Deputies say the employee could not provide a physical description of the couple who abandoned the dog, but said the couple drove away in a white SUV.
