(WLTX) – Lexington One’s Albert Robertson is one of the five statewide Teacher of the Year Finalists. He teaches 7th grade Social Studies and Meadow Glen Middle School and is also the House Leader, overseeing the other teachers in his 7th grade house.
For the past nine years, teaching has been Albert Robertson’s job. It’s been his passion ever since his grandma taught him without him even knowing it. “Learning was happening kind of by accident,” said Robertson. “To me, that’s the best type of learning, when it’s by accident, when you don’t really know what you’re learning or that you’re even learning, but you have kind of that ‘a-ha!’ moment and you’re like I learned something cool today.”
That passion is now being passed on to Robertson’s students. Coleman Campbell has had Robertson for the past two years and says he’s everyone’s favorite — no offense to the other teachers.
“Every single student of his enjoys going to class,” said Campbell. “Every day at the end of the class we say no, we don’t want to leave because we just want to stay with him and keep learning!”
His unconventional method has paid off, earning Robertson Lexington One’s teacher of the year in 2014. This year, he’s gotten even further as one of the five statewide finalists.
